Contact Form

When you contact us via our contact form, a third-party spam checking service, Akismet, reviews IP addresses, user agents, names, email addresses, websites and messages for the sole purpose of spam checking. We receive an email which includes your IP address, timestamp, name, email address, website, and message for the sole purpose of responding to your inquiry.

Newsletter Subscription

We use MailChimp, a GDPR-compliant email service to maintain the mailing list.  You may unsubscribe to our list at any time, either by clicking the unsubscribe button at the end of a newsletter or emailing us at

Google Analytics

To better understand how people use this website, uses Google Analytics to view anonymized information about site visitors. You can opt out of Google tracking via our pop-up or by using a browser extension.

Comments uses Jetpack Comments (owned by Automattic) to enable discussion about topics posted.  Jetpack Comments uses data such as commenter’s name, email address, and site URL (if provided via the comment form), timestamp, and IP address.

Jetpack Comments sends the following information to our spam checking service, Akismet (owned by Automattic), for the sole purpose of spam checking: commenter’s name, email address, site URL, IP address, and user agent.

Data Retention: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Comment Likes and Post Likes

If you are logged into, you can like comments and posts.

The following information is used to process these likes: user ID/username (you must be logged in to use this feature), the local site-specific user ID (if the user is signed in to the site on which the like occurred), and the fact that you did like the comment.  If you like comments from a mobile app, the app also collects browser language, country code, and device information.

Gravatar Hovercards

If a visitor has previously submitted a comment on using an email address that is attached to an active Gravatar profile, this site will send a hash of the user’s email to the Gravatar service in order to retrieve their profile image.

Subscription to Posts via Email

When you subscribe to receive notification of posts via email, your email, IP address, and user agent is used for spam checking as well as for delivery of the requested email notification.

Mobile Theme

This site uses a Divi, a fully responsive theme.  Divi may use cookies to remember your device information in order to optimize how the site is rendered on your device.

Data Collected for Protection and Security

In order to check login activity and potentially block fraudulent attempts, the following information is used: attempting user’s IP address, attempting user’s email address/username (i.e. according to the value they were attempting to use during the login process), and all IP-related HTTP headers attached to the attempting user.
